Solar Village SDG will have at its heart the intention to make female empowerment and enhance female labour force participation a key goal. For International Women's Day in March each year we will host online events to discuss these important issues.

In due course, we hope to set up targeted local mentorship and vocational scholarship programmes to help girls and women, in particular.

As part of our contribution to mitigating climate risk and to supporting rural lives we are piloting, through the school communities we work with, initiatives to upcycle old textiles such as denim. We will avoid these going into landfill and instead we will upcycle them into creating beautiful and functioning items under our own brand such as bags, bedspreads, table wear etc. 

It will create a fair revenue for struggling mothers and provide economic independence to escape domestic violence where this may be an issue

This remains an issue in many rural areas or for deprived communities. A pack of sanitary towels can be unaffordable particularly where there are several girls or women are within the household.

Currently plastic backed sanitary towels will go into landfill or are burned with its damaging effects on the environment.

We are piloting a reusable sanitary towel through the parents of a school we are working with.

We will use fundraising to pilot, with a view to later expanding via the Solar Village concept, fabrication of artisanal or agricultural products. Through value addition and our own branding we hope not only to create cottage industries to support local livelihoods but to provide mentorship and micro-credits to girls and women who have the skills and an industrious approach to secure economic independence.
