SOLAR VILLAGE SDG cic

Solar Village SDG is a community interest company dedicated to empowering rural communities through sustainable development initiatives rooted in renewable energy.

OUR MISSION

At SOLAR VILLAGE SDG, we are dedicated to implementing renewable energy solutions in rural areas to foster sustainable development.

Our mission is to create a positive impact by providing access to clean and affordable energy, thereby improving the livelihoods of rural communities. Throughout our Solar Village history, we have consistently pursued innovative approaches to address energy poverty and environmental and social development sustainably.

Our commitment is to continuously increase the uptake of renewable energy to make a renewable energy island. Thereby we will use the Solar Village Concept to enhance the  income to meet the evolving needs of the communities we will serve.

"Solar Village SDG" aims to use the income from the application of the Solar Village concept to empower communities to meet sustainable development goals (SDG).

Whilst the concept predates the UN's 17 SDGs our Solar Village Concept to support 14 of these SDGs.

THE SOLAR VILLAGE CONCEPT

Read our advocacy document below to find out all about Solar Villages

The Solar Village project aligns with 14 out of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Here’s how:

Goal 1: No Poverty

Solar energy infrastructure generates income for communities (e.g., through solar roofs connected to the national grid under the "Net-Plus" scheme) and funds micro-credit facilities, helping reduce poverty.

Goal 2: Zero Hunger

Solar-powered irrigation supports agriculture and food security, enabling year-round crop production even in drought-prone areas.

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being

Clean water systems powered by solar energy reduce waterborne diseases.

Access to clean energy eliminates reliance on polluting diesel generators, improving air quality.

Goal 4: Quality Education

Enhanced schools with reliable electricity improve educational facilities and resources for children, reducing school closures.

Goal 5: Gender Equality

Equal representation of women in Village Development Committees (VDCs) ensures gender-balanced decision-making and empowerment.

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Solar water pumps provide clean drinking water and improve sanitation in rural areas.

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

The project replaces fossil fuels with renewable solar energy, ensuring affordable, clean, and sustainable energy access.

Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Income from solar projects supports local entrepreneurship and creates jobs through initiatives like beekeeping, organic farming, and small-scale enterprises.

Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

Solar infrastructure promotes technological innovation and supports rural development.

Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities

Projects are implemented in underserved and marginalized communities, bridging economic and social gaps.

Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Community-driven solar initiatives empower local governance, making villages more self-reliant and resilient.

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices promote environmentally responsible resource use.

Goal 13: Climate Action

Solar energy and tree planting mitigate climate change by reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing carbon sequestration.

Goal 15: Life on Land

Afforestation projects improve biodiversity, reduce soil erosion, and enhance the rural environment.
